Iomega, Class Act or Class Action?: A Continuing Study Into How Iomega Treats Its Customers

Fool On The Hill
But, there have been enough good reasons for people to gripe! David Kirk's now-abandoned Moan & Groan page was around for a pretty long time (please don't ask me HOW long, as I do not know the answer to that).
But the "granddaddy" of what might be called the "Anti-Iomega Web sites" seems to be Sean McGuire's, which was last updated on 13 June 1996.
McGuire's site predates both
and this one. I apologize for not previously having given Mr. McGuire's site the kind of recognition it so fully merits. My oversight was due to confusions generated by hardware troubles that were wholly unrelated to this current Iomega flap.

"As luck would have it, my March PC-World just arrived, and this is what I found on pages 29 and 30, in the article 'Quick Information Fix-- Web Style':
'If you bookmark only one consumer site, make sure it is this one:
'Internet Consumer Protection Agency (for-profit business)
'State Attorneys General Offices
'"How to resolve your consumer complaint"-- written by a lawyer
'Consumer Law Page
I thank Rob for his continuing help.
[Yes, I know that this is not a Web site, but it is free. ;) ]

[From Vic Evans, 10 April 1997]:
THE OTHER THING I WOULD LIKE TO SUGGEST:
I discovered some more addresses that you may want to check out and perhaps add to your list. I found a page that talks about Ralph Nader and James Loves' fight against Microsoft. Check it out at:
You or others, may want to contact them as perhaps they can help. It might be a good idea to check with them first. I am sending a copy of this message to them so they may be expecting you. Try the following addresses. [Thanks, Vic! In fact, I am almost certain that (I have written email to Nader about the iomega stuff before. At least, I know that I have copied iomega-related stuff to his email address at
"Ralph Nader, Center for Study of Responsive Law" <csrl@CSRL.org>
On the other hand, I have sent him stuff about my
site as well, and have never heard anything at all back from him. I guess he is a pretty busy guy, but having more people writing to him about iomega could not possibly hurt our cause! :)) ... --SL, 10 Apr 1997]
Ralph Nader

James Love
Consumer Project on Technology
P.O. Box 19367, Washington, DC 20036

I also think it might be a good idea to contact _Consumers' Report_.
[Actually, Vic, others have made the same, good suggestion, from time to time. Surprisingly, I am unable to find any Web site or email address for Consumers Union or Consumers Report! Come to think of it, I recall that somebody posted a newsgroup suggestion that people write to Consumers Union to complain about that! ;)
What I CAN provide is the simple (USPS) mailing address:
Consumers Report
Consumers Union
101 Truman Avenue
Yonkers, New York

Best wishes and lots of luck,

some day? 17 April 1997??)
I realize that I MUST STILL have missed some good sites, and I solicit your telling me about them. Also, if anyone knows a fuller history of who has done what, previously, to complain about Iomega's treatment of its users, please tell me as fully as possible.
By the way, you might like to visit "Seatbelts for School Buses"
