1. CONRAD1 WETZ was born Abt. 1788 in Offenbach, Germany, and died October 14, 1846 in New Braunfels, Comal Co, TX.

Notes for CONRAD WETZ:

The following was taken from page 1486 of the Bremer Book on Conrad Wetz.

Conrad Wetz circa 1788 Offenbach d. /10/14/1846 New Braunfels of epidemic arrived 1845 on the Herschel apparently a widower accompanied by son Johann George. The other children followed later.

His children were: Johann Jost, Anton, Katherina, Johann George and Anna Elizabeth.

*****Note - Research, however may prove that some were nieces and nephews, the younger strongest candidate for that being Johann Jost i the authors opinion, who might also even be a younger brother to Conrad. At any rate, all the Wetz are from the same family.

Notes for JOHANN JOST WETZ:

The Wetz's arrived in Texas in 1852. Either Johann Jost or his wife Anna Marie Schneider died May 25, 1862, the church record as to which is unclear. The 1880 census for Guadalupe County shows that Anna Schneider Wetz was still living with her son, so until otherwise proven, the above death death will be used for Johann Jost.

Notes for ANNA MARIE SCHNEIDER:

Anna was living with her son Johann George and his family during the 1880 census for Guadalupe County. They lived in the 1st St. Clara Settlement.

Children of JOHANN WETZ and ANNA SCHNEIDER are:

i. JACOB3 WETZ, b. Abt. 1830, Germany; d. Abt. 1850, Galveston, Texas.

Notes for JACOB WETZ:

The death date of 1850 was taken from the Bremer Book. Please note however, that the same book states that his parents Johann Jost and Anna Marie Wetz came to Texas in 1852. I assume that they actually arrived in Galveston in 1850 and settled in Comal County in 1852.

Notes for GEORGE ANTON WETZ:

The 1880 census for Guadalupe County list his name as Anton Wetz, Jr., age 35, occupation; farmer. He was born in Prussia as were his mother and father. Notes for WILHELMINE MAGNUS:

Wilhelmine was 55 at the time of the 1900 Comal County census. She had 13 children of which 11 were still living at the time of the Census. See the note on Johann Georg Wahl for all information on Wilhelmine. She is buried at the New Braunfels Cemetery in New Braunfels, Comal County, Texas next to her husband Johann Georg Wahl.

Notes for JOHANN GEORG WAHL:

According to the 1900 census, George was a farmer and owned farm # 42 in Comal County and it was financed. He was married to Wilhelmine . It showed that he was 71 and his wife 56. They had 13 children, 11 of whom were still living at the time of the census. This information was provided by my cousin John W. Wahl during a conversation on April 11, 1998.

I had previously looked at the 1910 census for Comal County and wrote down information on a J.G. WAHL who was 81 and his wife Wilhelmine 66. They had been married for 50 years then. It also shows that he immigrated in 1846 although the 1900 census shows 1847, and she immigrated in 1858. They lived on N. San Antonio Road. They were both born in Germany as were their parents. From this information, I have assumed that the Georg WAHL listed in 1900 and the J.G. (Johann Georg) WAHL listed in the 1910 census are one and the same. The 1910 census also showed that Wilhelmine had 13 children of which 11 were still living at the time for the census.

The following information was taken from a reference in the Bremer Book and provided by Wanda Qualls of New Braunfels. " Johann Georg Wahl arrived in Texas circa 1846. He may not have traveled directly to Texas as his name is missing from any of the ship lists." Wilhelmine Magnus born circa 1845 Offenbach married February 4, 1860 to Johann George Wall born circa 1825 Oberkerken Wurttenberg. Wanda states the following in reference to census reports, " I didn't find him in the 1870 Census in 1880 I found Johann Wahl 52, Wilhelmine 35, Katherine 19, Heinrich 15, Adolph 13, Friederick 11, August 9, Caroline 6, Louise 4, Hermann 2, and Otto 5 mo. In 1900 I found George Wahl 10/1828; Wilhelmina 12/1844; Rudolph 4/1881; and Meda 11/1885. I will check the marriage records and see if there is anything there." Thank you Wanda for all the information. Please notice the many different way that Georg's name was listed. Of the 13 children that they had, 11 of them are accounted for here.

Georg and his wife Wilhelmine Magnus are buried at the New Braunfels Cemetery as listed in the "Cemeteries of New Braunfels in Comal County, Texas" page 176. Next to them is Albert H. Koepp and on the other side is Edna Jentsch, Milton Reininger, John Hildebrandt and his wife Louise

** As a note, I was told that there is a WAHL Cemetery in Comal County. Wanda Qualls did verify that there was a WAHL cemetery there but that there is a reference in the Family Footsteps that states "The entire family listed in the Wahl Cemetery has been reinterred in the Bracken Community Cemetery in 1994. Mrs. Mildred Wordenbaum of New Braunfels furnished the information. I was told that the Wahl's in this cemetery were those of the Phillip Wahl family which is no relation (assumed) to the Johann Georg Wahl family, at least not at this time.

August is buried at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery on New Braunfels Ave in San Antonio. His tombstone sits with a group of Koepp's and that of a his brother Henry (died 2/27/1947) and Henry's wife Ernstine Dorow Wahl. Henry and Ernstine's tombstone say Father and Mother and August's tombstone says Father, yet I see no wife or Wahl children buried close by. August's wife Minna I believe is buried at the Lone Oak Cemetery in Guadalupe County.

The 1900 census for Guadalupe County shows that August was 29 years old, married for 9 years and was a farmer. He was born in Texas and both of his parents were born in Germany. He could read, write and speak English. He owned his own farm which was listed as # 282 in the census. They lived in Precinct 8.

Notes for MINNA VOGEL:

It is unknown where Minna is buried at this time, but through my travels into the cemeteries, I found a Minna Wahl born 1872 died 1962 at the Lone Oak Cemetery in Guadalupe County. I am almost positive that this is her and will list her as such since there is no wife buried next to August Wahl at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery on New Braunfels Ave in San Antonio.

At the time of the 1900 Guadalupe County Census, Minna was 27 years old and married for 9 years. It shows that she had 3 children of which 3 were living at the time. She was born in Germany as were her mother and father. She could read and write but could not speak English at the time.

Children of AUGUST WAHL and MINNA VOGEL are:

i. EDDIE5 WAHL, b. April 1892.

ii. HARRY WAHL, b. March 1895, Texas.

Notes for HARRY WAHL:

The Social Security Death Index list a Harry WAHL born March 11, 1895 and died June 1982 in New Braunfels, Comal County, Texas. SSN 450-60-8031. I believe that this is the same Harry with the birth year reported incorrectly.

iii. ELLA WAHL, b. February 1900.

23. CAROLINE "LINA"4 WAHL (WILHELMINE3 MAGNUS, KATHERINA2 WETZ, CONRAD1) was born May 18, 1873 in Texas, and died August 24, 1952 in San Antonio, Bexar Co, TX. She married HERMAN KOEPP, son of AUGUST KOEPP and JOHANNA KOEPP.

Notes for CAROLINE "LINA" WAHL:

Lina owned the Cafe that was across the street from my mother cafe "Tillie's Cafe". Both of them were and still are located next to the railroad yard off of New Braunfels. Going north on N.B. Ave, if you look down to the left as you cross the bridge right before the Interstate you can still see where Tillie's Cafe was. It is now a Mexican food restaurant.

Buried at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery on New Braunfels Ave in San Antonio, Texas next to her husband Herman Koepp and their children Elmo and Linda.

Notes for HERMAN KOEPP:

The 1900 Guadalupe County census shows that Herman was married to Lina born 1873. The 1910 census shows the same only his wife's name is Caroline. I assume that they are one in the same. I am also assuming that Herman is the son of August since I have family photos showing my family attended Caroline's funeral in 1952. I am positive that he is the son of August. He is buried at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery on New Braunfels Ave in San Antonio, Texas next to his wife Caroline and their children Elmo and Linda.

Children of CAROLINE WAHL and HERMAN KOEPP are:

i. LINDA5 KOEPP, b. September 21, 1891; d. August 12, 1977, San Antonio, Bexar, TX; m. OTTO BOYLE HILL.

Notes for LINDA KOEPP:

Buried at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery on New Braunfels Ave in San Antonio, Texas. Her tombstone reads Linda Hill Fredrick so I assume that she remarried after Otto died but I do no have that information at this time.

Notes for THOMAS FRANKLIN KEYSER:

I have been working on this family tree now since September 1997. I never knew how far I would go with it but every day I find something or someone new to add. It is a relief knowing where my ancestors came from and what they did for a living. It is hard to imagine how they had to live back in the "old" days but I know from research that it was not always easy. I can only tell you that from the photographs that I have seen so far, it seems that most of the family was happy. I still have a ways to go with my research but as of today April 17, 1998 I have over 900 names in the family tree.

Notes: I entered the U. S. Navy in September 1970 through the Navy Recruiting Office in downtown San Antonio. I will eventually list all my former commands here. I retired from the U.S. NAVY in New Orleans, LA after 22 years June 30, 1992.

Today, September 6, 1998 I attended the annual ALTHAUS/ROGERS reunion in Naco, Arizona at the Two Owls Inn. In attendance were approximately 75 family members who I finally got to meet after finding my family relations here in Arizona. I sat down with Harry Althaus who came in from New Mexico and discussed several aspects of the Althaus genealogy and in addition, got to meet the Rogers side of the family. Some of them are currently filling out genealogy worksheets for me to add their families to the tree. I will eventually get a list of those who attended from Edna Rogers Soles.

Today, October 21, 1998 I met Art and Marlene Althaus who are from South Dakota. they are on a trip to southern Mexico for the winter. Having corresponded with them a couple of months ago about the South Dakota ALTHAUS families, they had decided to come to Sierra Vista to visit with me. We had lunch and discussed our families and will continue to search for a common name between the two. Although they only stayed a couple of hours, it was enjoyable and they are a very nice couple.

July 15, 1998. Today is Hayley's 3rd birthday. We have a birthday party planned for her on Sunday the 19th so that every one from Tucson can come down.

July 19, 1998. Well today we had Hayley's birthday party but because Ana's mother was in the hospital in Tucson no one from there could come down. So anyway, we took Hayley and Kevin to see MULAN at the theather. They really enjoyed it and I guess that Ana and I did too even though it was a kids movie. After we came home, we surpised Hayley with her cake and presents (more Barbie's). She really enjoyed that even though it was just us. Maybe things will go right next year.
