The earliest records for the Seiler family begin with Johann Adam whose tombstone stood until recent years in the graveyard adjoining the church in Medenbach, Germany. His grave was razed when an addition was built to the church in the mid 1970's, and the present whereabouts of his gravestone has not been established. His wife, Anna Christina Herr Seiler, was also buried in the church cemetery. Her tombstone was still standing in 1976.

From the Bremer Book: Johannes accompanied his uncle Johann Jakob Seiler and family to Texas in 1845 and is believed to have taken leave of his uncle's family after their arrival in New Braunfels to accompany the first group of immigrants enroute to Fredericksburg. According to a descendant of his brother Jakob Christian Seiler, years later a death notice was sent to Jakob Christian informing him that Johannes had been killed by Indians. As a Verein emigrant, Johannes was entitled to 320 acres of land in the Fischer-Miller Grant and certificate number 340 , dated July 31, 1854, was duly issued in his name after his death. The 1855 field notes for survey number 572 indicated it covered land to which the "heirs of John Seiler" were entitled. The acreage was situated in San Saba County on the waters of Cheoke Creek, a tributary of the Colorado River, about 30 miles North 63 east of Fort Mason.
According to Gillespie County Probate records of 1854, Daniel Weiershausen was appointed administrator of his estate. Reference to the estate in the records, as researched by the author and his cousin Elfriede Muller (umlauts over the u) in July 1976, failed to mention to whom the final disposition of Johannes' estate was made.

The Seiler's were among 138 immigrants in Bremen boarding the Herschel, a 220 ton ship desinged by Rutherford and built at Dysart in 1839, whose first captain had been named Robertson and whose home port was Dundee, Scotland. The captain for the Seiler's trip was named Gambke and practically all of the passengers aboard were from the same general area of Germany. On December 16, Galveston was reached and the immigrants were transported from there to Indianola, afterwards traveling to New Braunfels where the Seiler's remained until circa 1849.

Although listed as Evangelical in earlier records, the Theis family later was listed as Dissident, an indication they had become associated with the Baptists in the interval.

Notes for WILHELM SEILER:
Wilhelm married two years after the Seilers arrived in Comal County to Henriette and by 1850 the young couple had settled in the Schertz-Cibolo area of Guadalupe County.
According to data contained on page 169, Volume C, Comal County District Court Records, Wilhelm became a citizen of the United States during the Fall Term of 1858. The language used is much the same as that found in teh record for his younger brother Jacob Christian Seiler a year later and which is given later in this section.
In 1912, the following obituary for Wilhelm was penned by his daughter-in-law Mrs. Jacob C. Seiler for a Guadalupe County Newspaper, a copy of which she kept in the family Bible.
Mr. William Seiler Sr. passed away at this son's, Jacob Seiler's, residence near Schertz, Guadalupe County, Texas at 8:30 A.M. where he had been having their gentle and loving care for almost 7 years. At the age of 87 years, 5 months and 22 days.
Born at Dillenburg, Nassau, April 13, 1825. Came to Texas in 1845 and settled in New Braunfels, Texas. In 1847 he was married to Heneretta Fischer. During their union they were blessed with 7 children, 3 sons and 4 daughters. His companion passed away in 1903. Also 4 children departed before him. He is survived by 2 sons, Henry and Jacob of Schertz, Texas, 1 daughter, Louisa Zieschang, Ballinger, Texas, 2 daughters-in-law, 1 son-in-law, 44 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. He was an old settler of Guadalupe County. (Author's note: The number of grandchildren was not given).

The Seiler's settled on a farm near Cibolo, where Henry was noted as raising good hordes and cattle in addition to his crops. Both he and his wife Mathilda were active in the affairs of the community and of the German Methodist congregation. Henry is buried in the Community Cemetery, Bracken, Texas with his wife.
