Descendants of Gerrits Keyser
I would like to thank Lorraine Keyser of Australia, my distant cousin in more than one way, for
all of her help and the info she provided me. Until now March of 1999 I had nothing other than
my great-grandfather's name, Jacob Henry Keyser. There is a book written by Charles S. Keyser
in 1889 on the Keyser family genealogy and about the reunion of 1888 in which they, our
ancestors celebrated the KEYSER's first 200 years in America. There is so much info in this
book about how our ancestors survived and about the many things (especially the Revolutionary
War and the War of 1812) that they had to endure. Thank you so much Lorraine.

"SAINTHOOD NEAR FOR HEIRESS WHO FOUNDED CATHOLIC ORDER.
Bensalem, PA. --- A socialite and heiress to one of Philadelphia's largest fortunes, Katharine Drexel could have had or done anything. What she chose instead as her life's work shocked high society but has her poised to become the second American born saint. The woman who lived a storybook youth of mansions, world travel and private tutors took a vow of poverty, entered the convent and used all of her $20 million inheritance to establish a missionary order dedicated to helping those treated the worst and regarded the least.
"She...gave everything to God, including herself," said Sister Ruth Catherine Spain, who belongs to the Sisters of the Blessed Sacreament order founded by Mother Drexel and who lives in the order's motherhouse in Bensalem. Supporters began touting her cause almost immediately after her death in 1955 at age 96. And a pair of mysterious healings -- one confirmed, the other still being investigated -- are drawing her closer to sainthood. She would be the only American-born sainte besides Sisters of Charity founder Elizabeth Ann Seton, canonized in 1975.
Mother Drexel is the closest to canonization of America's 29 candidates, most of whom are decades away from sainthood. "Theres's no white smoke yet," said Monisgnor Alexander Palmieri, vice postulator, or official advocate, for Mother Drexel's cause for sainthood, referring to the plume that signals when a new pope is chosen. He said he hoped canonization could come by the end of this year. She was beatified in 1988.
Katharine Drexal was bornin 1858 to a family of great wealth. Her father, Francis Drexel, was a banking magnate and business partner of J.P. Morgan. Her uncle, Anthony Drexel, founded Drexel University. When Francis Drexel died in 1885, the family fortune was worth $15 million, the equivalent of about $250 million today. After she joined the Sisters of Mercy in Pittsburgh in 1889, The Philadelphia Public Ledger ran the headline, "Miss Drexel Enters A Catholic Convent--Gives up Seven Million."
In 1891, she founded Blessed Sacrament Sisters for Indians and Colored People. The order's work was unpopular in the early years; undeterred, Mother Drexel urged the nuns to pray for those who opposed them. The Ku Klux Klan once threatened to burn one of the order's Southern schools and its church if the sisters didn't leave. "Lightning struck the (KKK) headquarters and burned it to the ground," Palmieri said.
In Mother Drexel's lifetime, the order established 12 American Inidan schools and more than 100 schools for blacks, including New Orleans' Xavier University, the only historically black Catholic college in America. In 1988, the Vatican confirmed Robert Gutherman was cured of deafness in one ear after praying to Mother Drexel. The church is investigating the case of an unidentified 6 year old whose hearing is said to have been similarly restored."

A short story from Floyd's Northumberland County Genealogy pages 423 thru 446 shows that the following children of Joseph and Maria were deceased: Harry, Elizabeth, Carrie, and Maria. It does not state if they died at a young age, were stillborn or died of natural causes.
Joseph was about 4 years old when he was brought to Chillisquaaque township, to the farm he occupied until his death. He was one of the oldest residents of his district, where he was well and favorably known. He was a lifelong farmer and trucker, and attended the Sunbury markets as such. He also followed boating upon the canal to some extent. This is also from the above story.

From Gonzales, Texas
Dear Sir: Your letter was received some days ago, and I have looked for the family tree but have yet found it. I will look in every paper, and if found will send it to you. I am the only child of Ezra Keyser, but have two children, the eldest being a boy, Keyser R. Blythe.
You can't imagine how much I will appreciate a history of the Keyser family, for I am Keyser from head to foot, and oh! how proud I am of it - and I assure you Ezra Keyser was an honor to the family.
He wrote so grandly beautiful - excuse a daughter's pride in her father - but not my opinion only, there have been many who have come here to see his writing again after an absence of many years.
But he is dead, gone from us to write in God's beautiful book of life and love. I can write no more now, my heart is too heavy. I will send you what I think will be of use to you.
