Arizona Ghost Towns

In 1968 much of the old wood-plank road west from Yuma sat in the dunes for all to see, and that year family friends took me along to see Mowry, a "real" ghost town at the time. The experience drove me to learn a lot of history, geology, off-roading and camping technique, cartography, and surveying. Seeking them out ever since, each search is a whole new adventure in the gorgeous desert. There are plenty of ghosts along the old highways too, and they're much easier to find if your eyes are open ... though the plank road is gone from the desert sands.

Here I simply seek to share a little of the how-to, a little of the what-to-expect, and the seasoned desert traveler's attitude: LET'S GO FIND A GHOST TOWN!
