In April 1990, we backpacked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, following the Bright Angel Trail from the South Rim to Phantom Ranch. The spur trail from Indian Gardens to Plateau Point offers spectacular views into the steep-walled Inner Gorge. |

Cindy looks out over the rooftops of Rocamadour, France, from a balcony nestled among seven tiny churches tucked into the cliffside above the town. Rocamadour, named for St. Amadour, was once a famous medieval pilgrimage town. We were off the tourist track in the Dordogne region of south-central France after having played chaperones to forty high-school students that Cindy's sister, Susan, took to France in April 1997. |
