The Penitence of Tantalus

The Burning Year

I remember all along the way, the year the rain fell a thousand endless days when the mistral wind blew hand in hand with pages through your eyes when all we needed was falling from the skies wander forty years through wilderness and flame in the kingdom of the blind on a throne of love and shame another summer gone, and yet you still remain different faces, different roads less travelled but the song remains the same

In the southern sky the rains come down to kiss your Spanish eyes and blows a wish these lips deny and the river flows from here for the first time in a year to sink this heart with fear and feel you dissappear and your words fail me just the same a blasphemy to speak your name for you I've given all the blame for the year the summer never came in the northern sea drifting in the riptide breaking free on lonely streets forgetting all you used to be these hopeless words I keep beneath the eye that never sleeps in Mordor's hold you realize the truths are spoken with the eyes

The River

From the riverbed watching over shallow sea comes the one the northern sky to rescue me and from forever the time it passes by so slow another in the distance in the undertow there comes a time when time is done to let it flow and become one to breathe a change a summer storm and blow a wish so far from home all these magicians weave a spell through my veins to the hollow frozen star to be with major tom again no more words no time to break free from the land the rising waters flow me to your distant sand

Anastasia

falling off the back side
of the edge of a reason
i can't change the way i feel
and i wouldn't change a thing
crawling down the wrong side
of the faces in my mind
a thousand blades of yesterday
can't save me from you this time

and you are light
and you are here
and you are gone
(and you're amazing)
tomorrow hazing never even began to reach you
i tried to reach you...

the sun is dim
the distance grows
to hold the wind
across the floes
a mirror kiss between her eyes
has blown a wish beneath the lies
a voice is similar and free
but no more time to carry
you dragging me down, me drawing you in
the rain it falls, it falls so hard

reach through the grey
smoothing out the surfaces retaining your smile
a voice in the distance
become poseidon, eating the sea
if you could read between the lines
reflected in her face
no more reflections
all I wish
so far and away
far and away

Coldlight

and I'm feeling, fading falling to ground these hands anticipating
await the final sound again one world in whispers slow and it's
drifting through the tide and all these dreams fall from tomorrow
slipping from my reach inside
and let it come and bring the flame
and let it burn where you remain
and let this memory laid to rest
so slowly fading in the west
and for as far as I can see
these bridges burn from you and me
here in the cold light seeing clear
a thousand miles away from here

home again monuments we thought were built to last
gone again easily we give into the blame
the mirror breaks how the pieces seemed to fit so well
moving on and giving in are all one and the same

and you're sinking in the headlights
and your words all come apart
and you're falling down forever
in the wasteland of your heart
I don't need to touch your future
I don't need to hold your fear
I don't need your fucking sympathy when
I'm a thousand miles away from here

Fragment and Shallow

the cold dissapears the world moves seamlessly down
the backs of the natives faces turned up to the ground
deep in your empire Eurydice falling from grace
heavy your hand, a willow of steel forever remain in this place

and it's so unforgiving the passage in time we walk on endlessly in fear
filling the cracks the cold empty spaces we're slowly filling with years
what has came to pass will not come this way
and I feel it so slowly burn me away
through all of summer I try to forget
and all the lost moments I've learned to regret

sometimes its easy to turn your face to the rain
and sometimes you wander back to where you know
 I'm always waiting again
Through years of tommorows Through hours of breathing your smile
just let it end just let me lay here for awhile

and it goes without saying of all these reminders hanging in sheets from the trees that the ones left behind are strewn with the garbage
the bits and the pieces you left here for me
the changing of face and the breaking of silence
that won't make a difference and can't change a thing
I'm living in memories I've tried to forget
and live with decisions I've learned to regret

I'm missing you more than words can say with each and every day
growing as old as the faces I knew back in a time when were all new
I'm missing you

i'm drawing down her fingers to seal my eyes to steal my lips
and still my sighs

Return To Me

and this is how it begins, it seems to me, it seems to be we're always back where we were then I never try, I never try to understand why you always return to me in the end

when the world falls it always falls for you it's the way it is and the way it's always been I could have tried to free myself again but I know that in the end you always win

Sometimes it's hard not to believe you when you promise not to do the things you know you always do and when you call out in the night you know I'll come running every time just in time for you to run me through

I never know just why and I never know why you return and I never know just where you are but I always know just where you've been and I don't regret the darker days and I don't regret this feeling "torn" and I never regret what might have been but I'll always regret the day you were born

Exile (The King of All I See)

closing time the table turned pages fall through shallow wind
upon the fields burned
come again bended knee in reverence some forgiveness is enough
waiting for the day

an image fading a moment slips away
slowly falling colors fade to grey
here in waiting for hope to return to me
here in exile, the king of all I see

giving in free at last and moving on
here to walk the broken path to watch you falling down
one remains and one dies burning through the skies
and one waits in the fragile moments in between the lies

feels so different but everything is the same
it's so easy when no one's left to blame
at the edge of tomorrow but far from breaking free
here in exile the king of all I see

in gales of laughter a whisper breaks the night
eve and mistral suspended in your light
from the sunrise to all we tried to be
here in exile the king of all I see

the silver rivers the endless frozen plain
the lonely mountain where banners wave your name
in sweet forgiveness to lay me down to sleep
here in exile  the king of all I see
