He married MARY ELIZA "LISA" WEISS Abt. 1877 in PA possibly Milton or Sunbury.
Notes for JACOB HENRY KEYSER:
The 1880 census for Chillisquaque Township in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania show that Jacob and Mary Weiss Keyser had one child living at home which means that my grandfather William Franklin Keyser may have been living with relatives since the census was taken right after the birth of Bertha M. who was one month old at the time of the census. Jacob was 20 years old and Mary "Lisa" was 19. Jacob was listed as a Laborer. It also shows that his parents were both born in PA. The census also shows that Jacob's father Daniel and his family, and Daniel's brother Jacob and his family, also lived in the same township.
I was told by my dad that Jacob Keyser work for the railroad or Philadelphia Trolly System from where he retired. Jacob is buried somewhere in Philadelphia. He was married to Mary Eliza "Lisa" Weiss.
Notes for MARY ELIZA "LISA" WEISS:
Her name is listed on son's Calvin's death certificate as Lisa Wisse but on his social security application is listed her full name as Mary Eliza WEISS. I was told by my dad that she had died a lot earlier than her husband Jacob Henry KEYSER. She possibly died around 1895 somewhere in Pennsylvania.

I was told by my father that his father William Franklin has a younger sister who died at a young age. I have not verified that Bertha was that child and will continue to search for other children of Jacob and Mary "Lisa" Keyser.

Notes for CALVIN RAYMOND KEYSER:
Calvin died of Cancer of the Prostate at the Elsmere Veterans Administration Hospital in Delaware and was buried in the Green Mount Cemetery located at 117 Westtown Road in West Chester, PA. Boyd Funeral Home of 101 S. Church Street, West Chester handled the service. The Rev. J. Richard Whiteside of the First Presbyterian Church, 130 W. Miner Street, West Chester officiated. I had just found out today (4/7/1998) that the Rev. Whiteside had shot and killed someone last year and then turned the gun on himself for reasons unknown. Today 18 April 1998 I received a true copy of Calvin's original Certificate of Death from the State of Delaware Board of Health. According to his death certificate, Calvin was never married.
At the time of his death in 1968, Calvin was living with Mrs. Margaret J. Hendricks on Sconnelltown Road and Miner Street, North Corner, West Chester, PA. Calvin's funeral was paid for by Herman Preston. Herman Preston, Ralph Preston and Joseph Fulton were pallbearers. I do not know at this time what Herman Preston's relationship with Calvin was, however, I do that Herman lived at 139 Grubb Road, Malvern, PA 19355. I sent a letter today (4/7/98) to that address in hopes that maybe a neighbor will remember Herman or Calvin. I received a phone call from the current resident (Mrs Joan O'Leary) of 139 Grubb today April 16, 1998. She stated that Herman's original neighbors were still there and she would do some asking around for me. She said that they (her husband and her) owned a historical tour company and would be on the lookout for Calvin father's (Jacob Keyser) tombstone since that is part of the tour. She also said that she remembered a health care center in West Chester which was name Preston Health Care and said that she would check into it to see if maybe is was run by Herman Preston and that is why he paid for the funeral. Today April 19, 1998 I talked to Joseph O. Fulton Jr., son of the Joseph Fulton who was a pallbearer. He is going to check through his fathers things to see if maybe there isn't a photo or something of someone they didn't know or couldn't identify and have it scanned and sent to me. Joseph's father was two years younger than Calvin and was probably a good friend so maybe there are some photos around.
Calvin was inducted in the Army on September 23, 1917 in Philadelphia, PA. His service number was 1778634. He was discharged May 4, 1919 at Camp Dix (now Fort Dix), New Jersey. He was a Pvt 1st Class and served with Co. A 111 Inf.
SSN 197-03-2021 was issued in PA.
Most of this information was taken from the obituary of Calvin Keyser by Phil Fling (prfling@ravenet.com) of Kennett Square, PA and sent to me. From this information, I was able to contact the Boyd Funeral home from where I have received copies of the original bill for the funeral and the arrangement sheet with vital information. I was also able to contact the church and they are currently (4/7/98) searching their records for any more information on the Keyser family. Today, April 17, 1998 I received a phone call from the church secretary and he stated that there were no records of a KEYSER at all and that if Calvin had been a member, his death would have been recorded in the church records.
Today, November 30, 1998 I finally received Calvin's original Social Security Number Application. It's shows that at the time of application that he lived at 1753, N. Tilghman Street, North Philadelphia, Pa. and that he worked for Robert Hawthorne who was at 1809 N. Hancock Street, Philadelphia, Pa. The application was dated March 12, 1937 and shows that he was 49 at the time. His birthdate on the application shows to be September 22, 1887 however, his death certificate and the Social Security Death Index show his birth year as 1886. I believe that 1887 is probably correct. In the upper right corner is his SSN handwritten. It appears to read 197-03-2024 not 2021 which is what the SSDI shows. It also shows his parents names to be Jacob Henry Keyser and Mary Eliza Weiss. His death certificate showed his mothers name to be Lisa Wisse.

Maurice Keyser, a truck farmer of West Chillisquaque township, Northumberland County, has a small but valuable tract in that township and attends the Sunbury markets. He was born Sept. 25, 1863, in Chillisquaque township, and comes of a family which has been settled in America since early Colonial times. Dirck Keyser, the founder of the family in this country, was born in 1635 at Amsterdam, Holland, son of Gerretts Keyser, who married Cornella, daughter of Tobias Govertsz Van de Wyngant, a Mennonite minister. Dirck Keyser landed a Philadelphia in 1688, and settled in Germantown where he was a pioneer manufacturer. He died there Nov. 30, 1714. His descendants are scattered all over the United States.
Maurice Keyser attended the public schools of his native township and remained with his father until eighteen years old, since when he has been engaged in trucking on his own account. In 1905 he bought his present farm in West Chillisquaque township, twenty-two acres of fine land especially adapted to truck farming, which he has since followed most successfully, finding a steady demand for his products in the Sunbury markets. He is an industrious worker and a good business man, and enjoys the confidence of his fellow citizens. In 1904 he was elected school director and has since served continously in that office, for two years he was secretary of the board. He is a Republican in his political views. Mr. Keyser married Mary Vandling, daughter of Peter Vandling, and they have the following children: Lucy, a graduate of the Montandon High School, who has been teaching the Chillisquaque school since 1906; Laura; Clifford, who is a member of the class of 1913 at Bucknell College, Lewisburg, PA; Lester; and Elizabeth. The family are Lutherans in religioous connection.

Notes for WILLIAM FRANKLIN KEYSER:
William served during the Spanish-American War and World War I. During WWI he served with HQ CO 7 FA of the 1st Division as the Band Sgt. A photo of him in 1919 taken in Germany is in the scrapbook. He later served at Ft. Sam Houston and retired from the Army there and stayed in San Antonio. He is buried at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery next to his wife Anna Laura. I am still trying to verify his birth location. His obituary mentioned a brother Calvin and I have now located proof of a Calvin Keyser that had died in 1968 and was buried in West Chester, PA just outside of Philadelphia.
Notes for ANNA LAURA GARDNER:
Buried in Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery next to her husband William Franklin Keyser. Laura was living with her son William's family at her time of death.
Texas marriage records show that she married Morris Baldwin who is the same as William Franklin Keyser. The name Morris came from a change during the war to hide his German heritage since he was fighting against the Kaiser Wilhelm.

Jr. as he was called by his family served briefly in the Army around 1962-1964. An avid bowler, he lost his battle with cancer of the pancreas September 19, 1988. He was born and raised in San Antonio, TX area but moved to Ohio during his last year of life so that his wife could be close to her parents for help. Jr. is buried at the Millville Cemetery in Hamilton, OH. His pallbearer were his brothers Robert and Raymond, friends Chris Whitley, Leon Zimmerman, James Rowlette and Doug Rowlette. I was aboard a ship in the Indian Ocean during his death and funeral and was unable to make it back.

Notes for THOMAS FRANKLIN KEYSER:
I have been working on this family tree now since September 1997. I never knew how far I would go with it but every day I find something or someone new to add. It is a relief knowing where my ancestors came from and what they did for a living. It is hard to imagine how they had to live back in the "old" days but I know from research that it was not always easy. I can only tell you that from the photographs that I have seen so far, it seems that most of the family was happy. I still have a ways to go with my research but as of today April 17, 1998 I have over 900 names in the family tree.
Notes: I entered the U. S. Navy in September 1970 through the Navy Recruiting Office in downtown San Antonio. I will eventually list all my former commands here. I retired from the U.S. NAVY in New Orleans, LA after 22 years June 30, 1992.
Today, September 6, 1998 I attended the annual ALTHAUS/ROGERS reunion in Naco, Arizona at the Two Owls Inn. In attendance were approximately 75 family members who I finally got to meet after finding my family relations here in Arizona. I sat down with Harry Althaus who came in from New Mexico and discussed several aspects of the Althaus genealogy and in addition, got to meet the Rogers side of the family. Some of them are currently filling out genealogy worksheets for me to add their families to the tree. I will eventually get a list of those who attended from Edna Rogers Soles.
